Job or Source of Income?
Do you want a job…or do you want a source of income?
Many think they are the same. They do the same thing don’t they? I mean they both give you income to cover your wants & needs.
Let’s Look at the Differences
A job is a place you go — physically or mentally — where you perform a similar set of duties every day. You’re paid on a regular schedule, and the pay helps cover your wants and needs. More than 60% of the time you have to convince yourself to do again today. You may not even realize you have having to convince yourself. You can be good at it.
You can even not hate it. Yet still feel empty when the day ends.
A source of income is something that you do that yes you do get paid, and you find a way to cover at least your basic wants and needs. You don’t measure it only in dollars. It might like work to someone else, but it gives you purpose and enjoyment. Something you still do even if the path wasn’t clear yet. You may think I never wanted to own my own business or be my own boss. You don’t have to be that, yes those people often do have a source of income, but not always.
Where you work feels less like a company… and more like a community. Sometimes even a family.
You are not counting minutes until the day ends. You are building something that feels like you.
Most of us were taught to aim for a job.
- Stable
- Safe
- Sensible
That is what our parents did. They wanted us to be better than they were, just like ever generation does. They didn’t realize their hard work to help prepare use for the future showed us we had to work to provide, and sometimes just look, but not be an active particpant in it.
When you are looking for a job or are working at a job, have you ever asked yourself what do I want?
That is something we don’t think about because we need the money. We think about the pay, the hours, the location, the benefits, and the pto. Those are what matter. We probably look at Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and Google to find out about what it is like to work for them or what they are about. Often when we are looking we are looking for better income. Why? Because we think money is what we want because it is what we need for our basic needs. That is what most of us were taught.
Now we have had to deal with some much from a pandemic shutdown, to daily seeing another mass shooting, to anything crazy almighty orange one has done. So dealing with just climbing the ladder for more money isn’t helping. We really need to stop and think about what we are doing.
If you had good news who would you share it with? If you got sick would you still do your job because you have a project that has to be done and you know how annoying it is when you have to pick up the slack for someone missing? Or would you continue to work because even though someone will help, you hate to ask knowing they are busy? Knowing someone probably will tell you to take the day or check on you.
The first is a job the second a source of income. In this day and age we need a source of income more than a job. We have too much that brings us down.
